NEF development wins City of Seattle SeaGreen Award

17 Oct 2007

On November 19, 2007, at the Seattle Central Library, the City of Seattle Office of Housing will be awarding a SeaGreen Award to the developer/owners, design teams and contractors for Housing Resources Group's Stone Way Apartments. Major funding for this development was made in partnership by the lender US Bank and investor National Equity Fund (NEF), an affiliate of LISC.

The City of Seattle's SeaGreen Awards program was developed to recognize excellence in energy conservation, operational savings and sustainable building practices in affordable multifamily housing projects. A non-smoking "green" building, the Stone Way Apartments is located on a prominent corner of Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood, close to the commercial district, public transportation, schools, parks and libraries. It comprises 70 affordable studios, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and serves individuals and families who earn 30 to 60 percent of the median income. The project includes several sustainable elements such as improved indoor environmental quality (with low VOC carpeting and paint), drought tolerant plants and drip irrigation, roof mounted solar panels, and bike storage for tenants, to name a few.

The SeaGreen Awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m., immediately prior to the Urban Sustainability Forum event "Building the New Green Urban Movement within Diverse Communities".
